All about me

All About Me Worksheet

An All About Me worksheet asks children to write and draw about themselves: their name, age, favorite things, and what they want to be. It is a favorite first-day-of-school activity, because it helps a teacher get to know the class and gives children an easy first piece of writing. There are two free versions below, one with large handwriting lines for kindergarten to 2nd grade and one with more prompts for grades 3 to 5.

Ways to use it

  • First day of school: children fill it in while you take attendance, then share one answer with a partner.
  • A class book or bulletin board: collect the sheets and display them so classmates learn about each other.
  • A time capsule: fill one in at the start of the year and again at the end, then compare the handwriting and the answers.
  • Homework: send it home in the first week so families can help, and learn something about each child at home.
  • Writing practice: the prompts give early writers something personal to write, which keeps them motivated.

Tips for young writers

On the K–2 sheet, each answer goes on three-line handwriting guides, so children can practice letter size as they write. Pre-writers can draw their answers, or you can write the words lightly for them to trace.

Let children draw the picture first. It warms up the hand, and talking about the drawing gives them words for the writing.
