About this worksheet
Kindergarten is when most children learn to form both uppercase and lowercase letters; the Common Core kindergarten language standards, for example, ask students to print many upper- and lowercase letters. Lowercase is the harder half: the letters come in three heights, some drop below the baseline, and pairs like b and d are easy to reverse. A three-line guide with a dashed midline shows exactly where each letter starts and stops.
Short consonant-vowel-consonant words such as cat, sun, and pig let children practice lowercase letters while they sound words out, so handwriting and early reading reinforce each other. Swap in this week’s phonics pattern or spelling words, and keep each session short and frequent.

Questions
- How many new letters should a kindergartener practice at once?
- A few at a time works best, grouped by shared strokes: c, a, d, and g all start with the same curve, so practicing them together makes each one easier.
- What kind of paper is best for kindergarten handwriting?
- Three-line paper with a solid top line, a dashed midline, and a solid baseline is the most common choice. Wider spacing helps at the start; narrow it as letters get smaller and steadier.
- Are the kindergarten handwriting worksheets free?
- Yes. The sample sheet on this page is a free PDF in US Letter or A4, no account needed. Creating and previewing your own version is free too; printing and downloading custom sheets come with Pro, which also removes the preview watermark.
