About this worksheet

Spelling sticks when students see a word, form it slowly, and then produce it from memory. Each row of this sheet does that in order: the word printed in full, a dotted copy to trace, and blank guide lines to write it again. The sample uses ten common words that are often misspelled in the early grades.

Paste your own list, one word per line, and the table grows to fit, continuing on new pages for long lists. Choose one to three write columns, dotted or solid trace letters, print or cursive fonts, and the line height that suits your class.

  1. 01

    Read, trace, write

Every word gets a model to read, a copy to trace, and blank lines to write it from memory.

  2. 02

    Any word list

Paste weekly spelling words, sight words, or vocabulary; long lists continue on extra pages.

  3. 03

    Guide lines in every box

Three-line or four-line guides in each cell keep letter size consistent while students spell.

Questions

Can I make spelling worksheets with my own words?
Yes. Type or paste your list, one word per line, and the table builds a row for each word. Longer words shrink to fit their box.
How many times does each word get written?
Students read the word, trace it once, and then write it in one to three blank boxes; you choose the number of write columns in the editor.
Does it work for sight words?
Yes. Paste any sight word list. The Dolch sight words page also has ready-made lists by grade.
Are the spelling worksheets free?
Yes. The sample sheet on this page is a free PDF in US Letter or A4, no account needed. Building and previewing your own list is free too; printing and downloading custom sheets come with Pro, which also removes the preview watermark.
