About this worksheet
Adding within 10 is the first addition goal in most kindergarten programs, and it builds the number bonds children lean on for the rest of arithmetic: 7 + 3, 6 + 4, 5 + 5. Every problem on this sheet has a sum of 10 or less, and zero appears now and then so children meet the idea that adding zero changes nothing.
Counters, fingers, or a ten frame are all fair game at this stage; the goal is accurate, confident answers, not speed. When a child can answer most of a page without counting from one, move on to addition within 20.

- What does “addition within 10” mean?
- Both numbers and the answer are 10 or less. It covers every single-digit addition fact whose sum stays at or below ten, such as 3 + 4 and 6 + 4.
- Should my child count on fingers?
- At first, yes. Counting on from the larger number (for 2 + 6, start at 6 and count 7, 8) is the usual next step, and recalling facts from memory comes with practice.
