About this worksheet
In the 9 times table the digits of each answer up to 9 × 10 add up to 9 (9 × 6 = 54, 5 + 4 = 9), and the tens digit is one less than the number multiplied by 9.
The finger trick works up to 9 × 10: hold up ten fingers, fold down the one you are multiplying by, and read tens to the left and ones to the right. 9 × n is also 10 × n − n.

Questions
- How does the 9 times table finger trick work?
- Hold up ten fingers. For 9 × 4, fold down the fourth finger: three fingers to the left are the tens and six to the right are the ones, so 36.
- Why are the 9 times table problems in random order?
- In order, children can skip count to each answer. Mixed order checks that each fact is actually remembered.
- Are these 9 times table worksheets free?
- Yes. The sample sheet on this page, with its answer key, is a free PDF in US Letter or A4, no account needed. Generating and previewing new problems is free too; printing and downloading custom sheets come with Pro, which also removes the preview watermark.
