About this worksheet

Two-digit by one-digit multiplication combines the facts with place value. In 36 × 4, the ones give 4 × 6 = 24: write 4, carry 2. The tens give 4 × 3 = 12 tens, plus the 2 carried, for 14 tens, so the answer is 144.

Before the column method, many classes use partial products: 36 × 4 = 30 × 4 + 6 × 4 = 120 + 24. Either method gives the same answer; the answer key shows only the final product.

Questions

What should my child know before this?
Multiplication facts up to 9 × 9 and how to carry in addition. Both are used in every problem.
Is the partial products method OK to use?
Yes. It shows the place value clearly and gives the same answer as the column method.
Are these two-digit by one-digit multiplication worksheets free?
Yes. The sample sheet on this page, with its answer key, is a free PDF in US Letter or A4, no account needed. Generating and previewing new problems is free too; printing and downloading custom sheets come with Pro, which also removes the preview watermark.
