About this worksheet

The first week back in January is a natural time for a fresh start in handwriting, too. This list mixes celebration words like 'party' and 'midnight' with words students need for New Year's goal writing, such as 'goal', 'hope', 'learn', and 'resolution'. 'Resolution' and 'celebrate' are long enough to test letter spacing, while 'goal' and 'new' keep the sheet comfortable for younger writers.

Follow the sheet with a goal-setting page where each student writes one sentence that begins 'This year I will'. You can type that sentence starter into the editor as a line to trace, and add the new year's number so students practice writing it.

Questions

Can I add the year to the worksheet?
Yes. Type the year on its own line in the editor and it gets its own tracing row, which is good practice for writing dates in January.
What is a good New Year's writing activity for kids?
A short goal sentence works well: 'This year I will learn to...' Students practice the words on this sheet first, then write their own goal underneath.
Are the New Year’s worksheets free?
Yes. The sample sheet on this page is a free PDF in US Letter or A4, no account needed. Creating and previewing your own version is free too; printing and downloading custom sheets come with Pro, which also removes the preview watermark.
