About this worksheet
With a two-digit divisor, each step needs an estimate. In 544 ÷ 17, 17 does not go into 5, so start with 54. Round 17 to 20: 20 goes into 54 about 2 times, but 17 goes in 3 times (51), leaving 3. Bring down the 4 to make 34, and 17 goes in exactly 2 times, so the answer is 32.
Estimates are often one too small or too large. If the subtraction leaves more than the divisor, the estimate was too small; if the product is larger than the number, it was too big. Every problem on this sheet divides evenly, so a remainder means a step needs another look.

Questions
- What grade learns two-digit divisors?
- In the Common Core standards, dividing up to four-digit numbers by two-digit divisors is a fifth-grade skill (5.NBT.B.6).
- How do you estimate with a two-digit divisor?
- Round the divisor to the nearest ten and divide by that, then multiply by the real divisor to check. Adjust the estimate up or down by one if it does not fit.
- Are these long division with two-digit divisors worksheets free?
- Yes. The sample sheet on this page, with its answer key, is a free PDF in US Letter or A4, no account needed. Generating and previewing new problems is free too; printing and downloading custom sheets come with Pro, which also removes the preview watermark.
