About this worksheet
These problems use the same steps as long division without remainders, but the last subtraction leaves something over. In 253 ÷ 6, 6 goes into 25 four times (24), leaving 1. Bring down the 3 to make 13; 6 goes in twice (12), leaving 1, so the answer is 42 R 1.
Every remainder is smaller than the divisor. To check an answer, multiply the quotient by the divisor and add the remainder: 42 × 6 + 1 = 253.

- How is this different from the division with remainders sheet?
- That sheet divides numbers up to 98, with answers up to 10. This one has answers from 12 to 99, so each problem takes at least two rounds of divide, multiply, subtract, bring down.
- Can the remainder be bigger than the divisor?
- No. If it is, the divisor fits one more time, so the digit in the answer above it should be one larger.
