About this worksheet
Lowercase m starts with an overcurve up to the midline and a slant line down. Repeat the overcurve and slant line twice more so there are three humps in all, then finish with an undercurve. Uppercase M starts with a small curve forward, slants down, and makes two overcurve humps that reach the top line before an undercurve exit.
Coming from a letter that ends with an undercurve, the join must turn into an overcurve to start m, as in am. Count the humps so the letter does not shrink to n or grow an extra bump. Uppercase M joins the following lowercase letter.
- 01
Overcurve letters (n, m, x, y, z, v)
Cursive m is usually taught alongside the other letters in its stroke family, so practicing them together reinforces the shared starting stroke.
- 02
Join m in real words
Words like moon, milk, mouse practice the joins into and out of m, which is what cursive is for.
- 03
Traditional US cursive
Set in a traditional cursive style on three-line guides, on Letter or A4 paper. Switch fonts or guides in the editor.
Questions
- How many humps does cursive m have?
- Lowercase cursive m has three overcurve humps, counting the lead-in, and n has two. Counting out loud while writing helps children get it right.
- Why do the humps in cursive m look pointed?
- Pointed humps usually mean the stroke is retracing up the slant line. Encourage a rounded overcurve at the top of each hump.
- Are the cursive letter M worksheets free?
- Yes. The sample sheet on this page is a free PDF in US Letter or A4, no account needed. Creating and previewing your own version is free too; printing and downloading custom sheets come with Pro, which also removes the preview watermark.
