About this worksheet

Lowercase o begins with an undercurve to the midline, then a downcurve around to the baseline and back up to close at the midline. Instead of exiting from the baseline, finish with a small checkstroke to the right at the midline. Uppercase O starts at the top line, makes a full downcurve oval back to the top, forms a small loop inside the top, and ends with a curve to the right.

Lowercase o ends high at the midline, so the next letter starts from a bridge stroke; on, os, and or are common examples. Before e, dip the bridge a little to leave room for the loop. Uppercase O usually does not join the letter after it.

  1. 01

    Downcurve letters (a, d, g, o, c, q)

Cursive o is usually taught alongside the other letters in its stroke family, so practicing them together reinforces the shared starting stroke.

  2. 02

    Join o in real words

Words like owl, orange, otter practice the joins into and out of o, which is what cursive is for.

  3. 03

    Traditional US cursive

Set in a traditional cursive style on three-line guides, on Letter or A4 paper. Switch fonts or guides in the editor.

Questions

Why does cursive o join differently from a?
Lowercase o ends with a checkstroke at the midline instead of an undercurve at the baseline. The next letter connects from that higher point with a bridge.
How do I fix an o that looks like a?
If the stroke retraces down and leaves from the baseline, it becomes a. Keep the checkstroke at the midline after closing the oval.
Are the cursive letter O worksheets free?
Yes. The sample sheet on this page is a free PDF in US Letter or A4, no account needed. Creating and previewing your own version is free too; printing and downloading custom sheets come with Pro, which also removes the preview watermark.
