About this worksheet
Lowercase u starts with an undercurve to the midline and a slant line down to the baseline. Repeat with another undercurve and slant line, then finish with an undercurve. Uppercase U starts at the top line with a small curve forward, slants down, undercurves back up to the top line, retraces a slant line down, and ends with an undercurve.
Lowercase u ends at the baseline with an undercurve and joins any letter; qu and ur are common pairs. Keep the two parts the same height so the u stays readable. Uppercase U joins the next lowercase letter in most programs.

Cursive u is usually taught alongside the other letters in its stroke family, so practicing them together reinforces the shared starting stroke.

- Why does cursive u look like a w?
- An extra undercurve or a checkstroke at the end turns u into w. Remind your child that u ends at the baseline.
- Why does cursive u have sharp points at the top?
- Those points come from retracing the slant lines. They separate u from n, which has rounded tops.
