About this worksheet

Lowercase c begins with an undercurve to the midline; many programs add a small hook or retrace at the top before the downcurve. Pull the downcurve around to the baseline and finish with an undercurve. Uppercase C starts just below the top line with a small curve, then a large downcurve to the baseline and an undercurve exit, like a tall version of the lowercase shape.

Because c is open on the right, the undercurve exit leaves the letter cleanly and connects to almost anything. The join ca or co needs the exit to rise and curve back over the top of the next oval. Uppercase C normally joins the letter after it, as in Cat.

  1. 01

    Downcurve letters (a, d, g, o, c, q)

Cursive c is usually taught alongside the other letters in its stroke family, so practicing them together reinforces the shared starting stroke.

  2. 02

    Join c in real words

Words like cat, cup, cake practice the joins into and out of c, which is what cursive is for.

  3. 03

    Traditional US cursive

Set in a traditional cursive style on three-line guides, on Letter or A4 paper. Switch fonts or guides in the editor.

Questions

My child writes cursive c like a print c. Is that wrong?
The shape is close, but cursive c needs the undercurve lead-in and exit so it can connect. Have them start on the baseline instead of at the top.
Why practice c before other downcurve letters?
The c stroke is the start of a, d, g, o, and q. Once the downcurve is smooth on c, those letters only add a closing stroke, a stem, or a tail.
Are the cursive letter C worksheets free?
Yes. The sample sheet on this page is a free PDF in US Letter or A4, no account needed. Creating and previewing your own version is free too; printing and downloading custom sheets come with Pro, which also removes the preview watermark.
