About this worksheet
Lowercase g opens like a: undercurve, downcurve, and close the oval at the midline. Retrace down into a slant line that drops below the baseline, then curve left into a lower loop that closes at the baseline. The stroke leaves with an overcurve. Uppercase G varies more between programs; a common form starts at the baseline, undercurves to the top line, loops, and finishes with curves that end near the midline.
Lowercase g exits with an overcurve that crosses at the baseline, so the next letter is reached from below; ga and go need that overcurve to rise and roll into the oval. Many programs do not join uppercase G to the next letter, while some do; follow your curriculum.

Downcurve letters (a, d, g, o, c, q)
Cursive g is usually taught alongside the other letters in its stroke family, so practicing them together reinforces the shared starting stroke.
- 02
Join g in real words

Questions
- What is the difference between cursive g and q?
- Both start with the same oval. The g tail loops to the left and exits with an overcurve, while the q tail closes on the right and exits with an undercurve.
- Why does uppercase cursive G look so different from print?
- Traditional uppercase G is built from a loop and curves rather than the print shape. Many children find it one of the harder capitals, so short daily practice helps.
- Are the cursive letter G worksheets free?
- Yes. The sample sheet on this page is a free PDF in US Letter or A4, no account needed. Creating and previewing your own version is free too; printing and downloading custom sheets come with Pro, which also removes the preview watermark.
