About this worksheet
Lowercase n begins with an overcurve to the midline and a slant line down to the baseline. Make a second overcurve, slant down again, and finish with an undercurve. Uppercase N starts with a small curve forward, slants down to the baseline, then rises in an overcurve to the top line, slants down, and ends with an undercurve.
Because n starts with an overcurve, an undercurve from the letter before has to roll over into it; in pairs like an and on, keep that roll rounded. The undercurve exit joins into any letter. Uppercase N connects to the next lowercase letter.

Overcurve letters (n, m, x, y, z, v)
Cursive n is usually taught alongside the other letters in its stroke family, so practicing them together reinforces the shared starting stroke.
- 02
Join n in real words
Words like nest, nose, nine practice the joins into and out of n, which is what cursive is for.
- 03
Traditional US cursive
Set in a traditional cursive style on three-line guides, on Letter or A4 paper. Switch fonts or guides in the editor.
Questions
- Why does cursive n look like a u?
- The overcurves are being written as undercurves, so the humps open at the top. Remind your child that n humps are rounded on top, while u is rounded at the bottom.
- Should n be practiced before m?
- Many programs teach n first because it has one fewer hump. Once n is steady, m adds just one more overcurve.
- Are the cursive letter N worksheets free?
- Yes. The sample sheet on this page is a free PDF in US Letter or A4, no account needed. Creating and previewing your own version is free too; printing and downloading custom sheets come with Pro, which also removes the preview watermark.
