About this worksheet
Lowercase f has two loops. An undercurve sweeps into a tall upper loop at the top line, then a straight slant line runs down past the baseline. The lower loop closes on the right side at the baseline, and an undercurve exits. Uppercase F is usually made like T: a curved cap stroke along the top line, a separate stem that curves down to the baseline, and a short crossing stroke at the midline.
Lowercase f leaves from the baseline with an undercurve, so it joins the next letter like most loop letters; ff in words like puffin needs two full loops. Uppercase F is commonly written with a lift and does not join, so the next lowercase letter starts fresh.

Loop letters (e, l, h, k, f, b)
Cursive f is usually taught alongside the other letters in its stroke family, so practicing them together reinforces the shared starting stroke.
- 02
Join f in real words
Words like fish, fox, frog practice the joins into and out of f, which is what cursive is for.

Traditional US cursive
Set in a traditional cursive style on three-line guides, on Letter or A4 paper. Switch fonts or guides in the editor.
Questions
- Which side does the bottom loop of cursive f close on?
- In traditional cursive, the lower loop of f closes on the right at the baseline, unlike g, j, and y, which close on the left. This lets f exit with an undercurve.
- Why does cursive f look lopsided?
- Usually the upper loop is much bigger than the lower one, or the stem is not straight. Aim for a straight slant line with loops of similar size above and below.
- Are the cursive letter F worksheets free?
- Yes. The sample sheet on this page is a free PDF in US Letter or A4, no account needed. Creating and previewing your own version is free too; printing and downloading custom sheets come with Pro, which also removes the preview watermark.
