About this worksheet
Writing to 20 is a common kindergarten goal, and the teen numbers are where it gets tricky: the words name the ones digit first (“six-teen”) while the numeral is written tens first (16). This sheet gives every number from 1 to 20 a traced row and a blank row, in counting order, so your child sees the 1 at the front of each teen number again and again.
Say each number as “one ten and six ones” while writing, and watch for reversed digits inside two-digit numbers. For focused work on a single number, the individual number pages below include formation notes and common mix-ups.
- 01
Every numeral from 1 to 20
One traced row per number in counting order, each followed by a blank row to write it independently.
- 02
Trace, then write
Faded numerals carry the shape; the blank line below checks whether it stuck.

Questions
- Why do kids write 61 instead of 16?
- Teen number words say the ones digit first, so children write the digits in the order they hear them. Saying “ten and six” and always writing the tens digit first fixes most of these.
- How many pages is the 1–20 sheet?
- About four pages on US Letter or A4 at the default size, with one traced row and one blank row per number. Shrink the line height in the editor to fit more on a page.
- Are the number tracing worksheets 1–20 free?
- Yes. The sample sheet on this page is a free PDF in US Letter or A4, no account needed. Creating and previewing your own version is free too; printing and downloading custom sheets come with Pro, which also removes the preview watermark.
