About this worksheet

Three is two bumps facing right. Start just below the top line on the left, curve up and around to the right, and come back in to the middle. Without lifting, curve around to the right again for a slightly larger bottom bump, ending near the baseline on the left. The middle point where the bumps meet sits at the dashed midline.

Children often reverse 3 into a backward E-like shape. The traced rows build the “around to the right, back to the middle, around again” rhythm. Saying the stroke out loud — “around, in, around” — while tracing helps the movement stick. The word “three” is a good spelling check too, since children often write it as “thre”.

Questions

How do I stop my child writing 3 backwards?
Show that both bumps of a 3 face the same way as the bump on a lowercase b or the curve of a D. Trace a row together, then have your child write one 3 at the start of each blank line before filling the rest.
Should the top of 3 be round or flat?
Most early handwriting programs teach a round top. A flat-topped 3 is a typeface style; it is fine to recognize but harder for young children to write consistently.
Are the number 3 tracing worksheets free?
Yes. The sample sheet on this page is a free PDF in US Letter or A4, no account needed. Creating and previewing your own version is free too; printing and downloading custom sheets come with Pro, which also removes the preview watermark.
