About this worksheet
Eleven is two ones side by side. Write each 1 as a straight line from the top line to the baseline, with a small, even gap between them. Both lines should be the same height and parallel; if one slants, 11 starts to look like a letter or a sign.
The word “eleven” does not follow the teen pattern, so children cannot work it out from the digits. Tracing the word on the last rows helps it become a memorized spelling. Point out that the first 1 means one ten and the second 1 means one more.

- Why is eleven not spelled “oneteen”?
- Eleven and twelve come from old words meaning “one left over” and “two left over” after counting ten. They are irregular, so children learn them by sight rather than by pattern.
- How do I keep both 1s the same size?
- Start each line exactly on the top line and stop on the baseline. The three-line guides on the sheet make the height easy to check.
