About this worksheet
Sixteen is a 1 followed by a 6. Write the straight 1, then start the 6 at the top line and curve down and left to the baseline, coming back up to close a small loop in the bottom half. The 6 should be the same height as the 1 and sit close beside it.
Sixteen is one of the easier teen words to spell because it keeps “six” whole. The handwriting focus is keeping the 6’s loop low so it does not turn into a 0. Counting sixteen objects as one group of ten and six more supports the place-value idea behind the numeral.

Questions
- Why does my child’s 16 look like 10?
- If the 6’s loop is too big or too high, it can look like a zero. Keep the long curve from the top and the small loop at the bottom.
- Is sixteen easier than other teen numbers?
- For spelling, yes, since “six” stays whole. The digit order still trips children up, so say “ten and six” while writing.
- Are the number 16 tracing worksheets free?
- Yes. The sample sheet on this page is a free PDF in US Letter or A4, no account needed. Creating and previewing your own version is free too; printing and downloading custom sheets come with Pro, which also removes the preview watermark.
