About this worksheet

Fourteen is a 1 followed by a 4. Write the straight 1, then the open 4: pull down from the top line to the midline, go across to the right, lift, and pull a long line down from the top through the crossbar to the baseline. Leave a small gap so the 4’s first stroke does not touch the 1.

Because the 4 has a pencil lift, fourteen is good practice for writing a multi-stroke digit next to another digit without crowding. As with all teen numbers, the word names the 4 first, so say “one ten and four ones” as you trace. The word “fourteen” keeps the full “four”, unlike forty.

  1. 01

    Trace and write 14

Rows of faded 14s to trace, each followed by a blank guide line to write the numeral from memory.

  2. 02

    The word “fourteen”

The number word comes after the numeral, so the sheet links the symbol, the word, and the quantity.

  3. 03

    Sized for early writers

Large numerals on three-line guides, on Letter or A4 paper. Change the size, font, or guides in the editor.

Questions

Why is it fourteen but forty?
English kept the “u” in fourteen but dropped it in forty. It is a common spelling trap, so it is worth pointing out when your child practices both words.
How do I stop the 4 from touching the 1?
Start the 4 a small step to the right of the 1. The traced row shows the spacing; have your child match it on the blank line.
Are the number 14 tracing worksheets free?
Yes. The sample sheet on this page is a free PDF in US Letter or A4, no account needed. Creating and previewing your own version is free too; printing and downloading custom sheets come with Pro, which also removes the preview watermark.
