About this worksheet
Seven starts at the top line on the left. Pull a straight line across to the right, then, without lifting, slant down and to the left to the baseline. The diagonal should be straight, not curved. In many European countries a short crossbar is added through the middle of the slant; US school programs usually leave it off.
Children often reverse 7 so it faces left, or start the slant from the wrong end of the top line. Have your child say “across, then down” as they trace. The word “seven” has five letters and two e’s, which makes it a good bridge from numeral writing into spelling.

Questions
- Should I teach a 7 with a line through it?
- In the US, the plain 7 is standard in schools. The crossed 7 is common in Europe and in some math settings to avoid confusion with 1. Teach the form your child will see at school.
- Why does my child’s 7 look like a backwards L?
- If the second stroke drops straight down instead of slanting, the 7 looks like a corner. Show the diagonal as a slide that leans left, and trace a row to feel the angle.
- Are the number 7 tracing worksheets free?
- Yes. The sample sheet on this page is a free PDF in US Letter or A4, no account needed. Creating and previewing your own version is free too; printing and downloading custom sheets come with Pro, which also removes the preview watermark.
