About this worksheet
Ten is the first two-digit number: a 1 followed by a 0. Write the 1 first, a straight line from the top line to the baseline, then leave a small gap and write the 0 starting at the top and going counterclockwise. The two digits should be the same height and close together, so they read as one number rather than two.
Ten introduces place value: the 1 means one group of ten, and the 0 means no extra ones. Counting ten objects, then bundling them, before tracing makes the written 10 meaningful. Spacing is the main handwriting skill here; a wide gap between 1 and 0 is the most common error.

Trace and write 10
Rows of faded 10s to trace, each followed by a blank guide line to write the numeral from memory.
- 02
The word “ten”
The number word comes after the numeral, so the sheet links the symbol, the word, and the quantity.
- 03
Sized for early writers
Large numerals on three-line guides, on Letter or A4 paper. Change the size, font, or guides in the editor.
Questions
- How far apart should the 1 and 0 be?
- Close, about the width of a small pencil dot. A wide gap makes 10 look like two separate numbers. The traced rows show the right spacing.
- Is 10 a good number to teach place value?
- Yes. Ten is where children first see that a digit’s position changes its value. Bundling ten sticks or filling a ten frame alongside this sheet links the symbol to the idea.
- Are the number 10 tracing worksheets free?
- Yes. The sample sheet on this page is a free PDF in US Letter or A4, no account needed. Creating and previewing your own version is free too; printing and downloading custom sheets come with Pro, which also removes the preview watermark.
